Talent Show
On Friday night we will be hosting the fabulous Explore LIFE Talent Show for all interested conference attendees. It doesn’t need to be fancy, just something you’d like to share with our audience. Musicians, singers, poets, dancers, avantgarde acts of all kinds and ages … we support everyone in the Talent Show. We will have a microphone, keyboard, CD player and hook ups for digital music players available. Please sign up on Thursday or Friday. Acts should be limited to 3 minutes so we can fit everyone in who wants to perform.
Better-than-Prom Extravaganza
If it’s Saturday night, then it must be time for the Better-than-Prom Extravaganza! BTPE is a dance tailored for teens (but all ages are welcome). Make the most of this un-prom opportunity: bring a date, wear fancy clothes or crazy costumes, rent a limo, go out to dinner, and so on. We’ll fire up the Better-than-Prom Playlist and dance until we drop (or until midnight, whichever comes first).
Note: We will be playing only family friendly music from 8:00-9:00. After 9:00 the Better-than-Prom Playlist will contain uncensored favorite songs chosen by teen unschoolers.
Fairy Godparents
Here’s your chance to bring a little joy and *magic* to someone’s weekend. Everyone who wants to participate will fill out a form, turn it in to the coordinator and pick up a sheet with a different participant’s information. Now once you have that name you MUST remember it. You can keep it in your pocket if need be. If you don’t know who this person is, ask people you DO know to find out. But do it stealthily! Once you know your Fairy God Child you can do anything you want for them as long as it’s kind and makes them feel good inside. You can make signs to hang in public places that say how wonderful they are, give them a random (consensual) hug “just for the fun of it”, ask someone to play or sing a song for them, write them a letter, make some kind of special food for them or leave them a small gift in their Fairy Godparent mailbox. Whatever you do make sure you do it without them knowing it’s you—and be creative!! And at the end of the weekend you can choose to tell your Fairy Godchild who you are or have them wonder forever.
And, please, if you put your name into the bucket and draw one, please participate. No one wants to be neglected by their Fairy Godparent!
UNtrepreneurial Fair
Unschoolers are often budding entrepreneurs! We provide a space and time for displaying and selling goods during the Explore LIFE UNtrepreneurial Fair. Both adults and children are invited to participate. The Fair is open on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6-8pm. This gives everyone an opportunity to sell their wares together and gives shoppers a set time to know when the shops are open for business!
Art Room
The Explore LIFE Art Room is open all weekend long and created for you and your family to relax and be artful. Plenty of art supplies and inspiring ideas will be available for the entire family. Come together in the Art Room to create, explore and learn!
